Assistant Superintendent

Due to growth we have a new role for an Assistant Superintendent. The role will involve Assisting Senior Management and Fleet Groups to ensure all Company vessels are maintained and operated in a safe and seaworthy condition in accordance with the requirements/instructions issued by the client, the Company’s Senior Management, flag state administrations and classification societies.
Key Responsbilities
- Carry out Projects as assigned by Senior Management.
- Maintaining familiarity with all Company rules and operating manuals in order to provide advice to ship’s staff and enable an effective role to be undertaken in any casualty response as required by management.
- Monitoring and inspecting of log books, abstracts and periodic returns submitted by the vessels, as required.
- Carrying out periodic ship visits, inspections and drills with appropriate reporting to the Fleet Manager, Senior Management and client as appropriate.
- Auditing of vessels as required by the Management System.
- Maintaining appropriate documentation and promulgating technical bulletins as necessary for the safe and efficient running of managed vessels.
- Assisting Senior Management and the Fleet Groups in the preparation of Insurance Claim reports and submissions.
- Providing advice to vessels’ staff and Company management within their area of expertise.
- Provide cover for Superintendents during periods when they are travelling on business or during holiday periods.
- Understudy the duties of the Superintendent in preparation for promotion to that position.
- Interviewing sea staff recruits within their area of expertise as requested by the Personnel Department.
- Emergency Role: Member of the Casualty Response Team.
- Occasional travel as required
You may be asked from time to time be asked to undertake other tasks that are considered to be relevant to your position.
Candidate Criteria
Essential
- Experience as Second Officer or other relevant experience in shipping industry
- Knowledge of ISM and ISP standards and codes
- Extensive operations, technical and safety knowledge of chemical, oil, gas tankers operations
- Good financial knowledge of budgets and maintaining cost control
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Customer facing skills
- Commercial acumen
- Excellent organisational skills
