Marine Instructor

Due to growth within our Clyde Training division, we have an opportunity to join our team as a Marine Instructor. The Marine Instructor will be responsible for the delivery of emergency response-based training programs, aimed at the Offshore Oil & Gas and Maritime Industries.

Key Responsibilities    

  • Delivering industry approved courses (OPITO, STCW and Bespoke events). 
  • Supervising delegates during open water Lifeboat & FRC/B courses, along with pool-based courses. 
  • Carrying out delegate competency assessments against the required course criteria. 
  • Attending periodical operational meetings. 
  • Managing your weekly training schedule, set by the lead instructor.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture around the worksite.  
  • Maintain and update courses to meet approval standards, following the Companies process and systems such as ISO 9001.
  • Primarily involved with Marine based courses, you would be also expected to support the demands of Survival based programs. 
  • Occasional travel as required. 

  You may be asked from time to time be asked to undertake other tasks that are considered to be relevant to your position. 

Candidate Requirements 

Essential  

  • National 5/GCSE level qualifications in maths and english or equivalent.
  • Worked offshore /at sea for minimum of 6 months.
  • Experience & recognised qualifications and competency to operate offshore/marine lifeboats and FRC’s.  
  • Experience within the following specialisms:-
    • Sea survival
    • Lifeboat
    • Tempsc
    • Fast rescure craft
    • Coxswain
  • Crane / Davit operator experience.  
  • Understanding of instructional techniques and process of training delivery 
  • Delivering training courses to large groups of delegates.  
  • Knowledge of safety cultures within our industries.   
  • Able and willing to work to flexible schedules/ shifts and commit the time required to get the job done  
  • Excellent communication skills.  
  • PC literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft systems.  
  • Ability to adapt to industry changes. 
  • Ability to work within a small, satellite team 

Desirable  

  • A1 Assessor or equivalent - Previous training experience is not essential
  • Experience of training large groups of delegates
  • Powerboat Level 2 commercially endorsed licence or equivalent
  • Possess occupational expertise and/or certifications in roles related to relevant Industries
  • Crane operator experience (overhead)
  • First Aid qualified
  • Knowledge of industry training standards & associations (OPITO & STCW)
